Phyllis Dinda Obituary

Phyllis (Geremia) Dinda, 61 years old, of Torrington, CT, adored wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was the wife of James Dinda of Torrington, CT.

Phyllis was the daughter of Lorenzo Geremia of Berlin, CT, and of the late Priscilla (Greene).  She was born and raised in New Britain, CT, along with her brothers Larry and James Geremia and amongst her large and very supportive extended family.  She later moved to Torrington, CT, with her lifelong love James Dinda where they raised their three cherished children.  She retired from Apple Rehabilitation where she was a bookkeeper at the Wolcott Hall facility in Torrington.

Phyllis was a natural caregiver with a strong work ethic, but she always prioritized family first.  Throughout Phyllis and Jim’s years in the community, their social circle grew as they were passionately involved in the many athletic and academic programs in which their children were enrolled.

Phyllis’ favorite hobbies were baking, crafting, and quilting.  Phyllis also enjoyed playing competitive cornhole.  The moments Phyllis enjoyed most were always time spent with family and friends.  She loved her grandchildren dearly and was always engaged in anything they were involved with.

In addition to her husband James, Phyllis is survived by their three children, James Jr. and his partner Christina Miranda of Harwinton, CT, Jaclyn Kostak and her husband Ken of New Hartford, CT; and Catherine Kinne and her husband Sean of New Hartford, CT; five grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia Dinda, Sophia and Trevor Kostak and Elizabeth Kinne.  She is also survived by her father Lorenzo Geremia and his wife Gerry and two brothers Larry and James Geremia all of Berlin, CT.

Phyllis was an amazing woman who left a lasting impression on all who were blessed with knowing her.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Talsania and the wonderful team at Smilow Cancer Center.
