Charles “Chuck” M. Swanson, 72, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away at his residence on Monday, September 2, 2019. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nona J. Swanson, and his son, Christopher Swanson.
Chuck was born November 4, 1946, in Torrington, CT, the son of Mary E. (Skutt) Swanson of Wolcott, CT and of the late Alsoph Swanson. He served his country with the US Navy, where he was stationed in the Mediterranean and also South Carolina. A musician while in the Navy, he played drums with the Vagabond Drum Corps. He was honorably discharged during September of 1969 and received the National Defense Service Medal. After serving his country, he played in various bands in the local area. He was a self-employed Piano Technician, retiring after 45 years in business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of the Torrington Elk’s Lodge #372 for 40 years, and was a member of the Torrington Country Club for 20 years, where he enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Swanson of Wolcott, CT; his sister, Victoria Buins of Wolcott, CT; and loving companion Diane English, of Torrington, CT, as well as extended family and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 160 Main St., Torrington, CT. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT 06790.
