Marilyn A. Hoitt, 71, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Hartford Hospital.
Marilyn was born on May 3, 1949, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Richard and Alice (Tazzara) Whelan. She was a teacher in the Torrington Public School system for more than 25 years. Marilyn was an avid reader and traveler, an advocate for early childhood literacy, a volunteer with children, a mentor to other teachers, and a member of the Board of Corporators at the Torrington Public Library. Marilyn was happiest spending time with her children, grandchildren, and granddogs Niles, Schmidt and David.
She is survived by one son, Jason Hoitt and his wife Stephanie of Rumson, NJ; one daughter Janine Hoitt of The Hague, The Netherlands; one brother, Richard Whelan of Kauai, Hawaii; one sister, Lorraine Edwards of Torrington, CT; two grandchildren, Harper and Hayes Hoitt.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. A private funeral service will be held. Relatives and friends attending calling hours are reminded to follow recommendations for COVID prevention with social distancing and wearing protective face masks.
