Everett C. Reid

Everett C. Reid, beloved husband of Jean Wylie Reid, died at his home Monday night, January 27, 2020.  Mr. Reid who was 92 years old, was born in Torrington, May 13, 1927, and was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Hand Reid.

Educated in local schools, Mr. Reid served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned to active duty on the U.S.S. Menefee during the Korean Conflict.  Following his discharge, he went to work for the Torrington Register where he worked as a pressman until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Everett “Chip” Reid of Torrington and John J. (Robin) Reid of Harwinton; three grandchildren, David Reid (Tracy) of Torrington, Emily Reid of Harwinton and Paige Reid of Harwinton.

Mr. Reid was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Evangeline Green and Mrs. Eunice Curtiss.

In his younger years, Reid was involved with his sons sporting activities and in his later he became “minor league philanthropist”, giving especially to veteran’s organizations and to groups who especially provided for animals and disabled children.

“Evie” as he was known to his friends, loved fast cars, especially convertibles.  He will be missed by all who know him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Prospect St., Torrington, CT.  Relatives and friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by the service at the conclusion of the calling hour at 1:30 p.m.  at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
