Ivan "Bud" Atwood, Jr. Obituary

Ivan “Bud” Warren Atwood, Jr., of Torrington, CT, passed peacefully on October 20, 2019, after a long battle with cancer.  He was the loving husband to Kay Ilene (Hawkins) Atwood for 53 years.

Ivan was born October 27, 1940, in Yonkers, NY, and was the son to the late Ivan Warren Atwood, Sr., and Helen (Ridzik) Atwood.  Bud was a graduate of Pine Bush High School in NY and of St. Joseph College in Bennington, VT.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era from 1959 to 1962.  Among the awards and decorations he received were the National Defense Service Medal, the Marksman (Rifle), the Good Conduct Medal and a Letter of Appreciation.  After the Army he worked in the retail industry with W.T. Grants and JC Penney before leaving to work with a local oil and gas company.  He spent time working at the DMV, security, and even the restaurant industry.  During his “retirement”, Bud became the Director of the Torrington Veterans Service Office where he was privileged to provide services and final honors to countless veterans and also served with the Northwest Connecticut Honor Guard.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Cynthia Zwart (Keith), Dawn Atwood, Michelle Monks (Scott), and Ivan Warren, III (Angel), his grandchildren, Stephen, David, and Nathan Zwart, Thomas and Savannah Monks, and Asher, Emmersyn and Ivan Warren Atwood, IV; a sister Joyce Channell of Plattsburgh, NY and a brother, Robert Atwood of Bennington, VT, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Diane and Robert Upright, his brother-in-law Joseph Ken Channell, and his nephew James Upright.
