Carmel Indomenico Obituary

Carmel J. Indomenico, 91, joined his loving wife Marie in heaven on November 30, 2019 after a recurrence of cancer and a broken heart.  He was born at his parents' home in Torrington, CT, attended Torrington High School, and was a lifelong resident.  He established Carmine’s Garage in 1949 with his wife and ran it successfully for 41 years. He was one of the best mechanics in Torrington.  He then continued his career at Wesconn Auto with his son.  His longevity was accredited to his strong work ethic and his homemade wine which he so enjoyed making every year.

You could always catch Carm dancing with his favorite partner in the kitchen or teaching his daughters or granddaughters new dance steps. He loved fast cars, music, dancing, and Frank Sinatra. A randomly spoken word often sent him into song, knowing each and every word! He played the trumpet from a young age without ever reading a note!

He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest always making everyone smile, putting them at ease, and making them laugh. His family was his whole life, the kitchen table at the family homestead was the hub of our life. We laughed, we cried, we ate, we drank wine, and shared every aspect of our lives. No matter what was brought up in conversation, he always had his own story or a witty “one liner”.

He spent many years taking excellent care of his beloved wife devoting each day to making sure all of her needs were met. He was always willing to help friends, family, and strangers no matter what was being asked such as, picking up grand kids, delivering parts, projects with his grandchildren and son, climbing on roofs, helping cook for our Tuesday night family dinners, making cheesecakes, plowing snow for the neighbors, getting the kids ready for school, and much more. There was never an end to his helping others. He was like the energizer bunny, never stopping. It was difficult for him throughout the last few weeks when he was forced to slow down due to his illness. He never liked to ask for help.

He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. His unconditional love for his wife and family was an incredible example for all of us.

Carmel is survived by his children, John and partner Dawn Schile, Joy Indomenico-Eck, Jo Bugryn and her partner, Terry Witt, and Chris Downs; his five grandchildren, Jason Indomenico and his wife, Catherine, their two children, Eli and Leo,  Tracy McKaveney and her husband, Chris and their two children, Aidan and Liam, Sara Morison and her husband, Rob, Josh Bugryn and Andrew Bugryn. He is also survived by his wonderful caregivers, our extended family, who were always there for him and his wife Marie.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie, and son-in-law, Calvert Eck.
