Maria (LaGatta) Calabrese

Maria (LaGatta) Calabrese, 75, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of the late Nicola Calabrese who preceded her in death on November 8, 2012.

Maria was born July 19, 1942, in Pomigliano D’arco, Naples, Italy.  She was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Angela (Manna) LaGatta.  She was employed by The Torrington Company in the Assembly Department until her retirement.  She was a member of the St. Peter Holy Rosary Society and a lifelong communicant of St. Peter Church.

She is survived by three children, Carmelina Calabrese of Torrington, Vincenzo Calabrese (Wendy) of Harwinton, Angela Calabrese of Torrington; three sisters, Giovanna Cipollone of Australia, Suffraggine Manna  and Ida LaGatta both of Naples, Italy; three grandsons, Joseph, Nicholas and Dominic Calabrese, as well as several nieces and nephews.  Maria’s family would like to thank all of the VNS Hospice Nurses for the wonderful and compassionate care given to her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, CT.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.
