Welcome to the memorial page for

Linda (DelMedico) Szczech

May 24, 1917 ~ September 20, 2016 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Linda DelMedico Szczech, 99, wife of the late Bronislaw(Bruno)Szczech passed away peacefully on September 20, 2016, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

She was born on May 24, 1917 in Salisbury, CT, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Angelina (Benedetti) DelMedico.  Linda attended Torrington Public Schools through eighth grade and then went on to work at The Torrington Company to help support her family.  She was employed there for over forty years, retiring in the late 1970’s.  After Linda married Bruno Szczech on March 31, 1951 they settled in Torrington.  They had celebrated 40 years of marriage before his death in October 1991.  While she had no children of her own, Linda had a large extended family whom she loved and appreciated dearly. She was a loving aunt who always remembered to send a card for birthdays and special occasions.  She was happy and proud to celebrate her 99th birthday this past May.

Linda is survived by her nieces and nephews:  Angela(Albreada)Flammia, Anthony Martello, Tom Gaura, Nancy(Gaura)Lane, Janet(Gaura)Schraner, Joseph DelMedico, Sandra(DelMedico) Lamoin, Diane(DelMedico) Soliani, and Sophie Southwood.  Linda was predeceased by her siblings, Elisa DelMedico, Adele Albreada, Christine Martello, Ida Gaura and John DelMedico; nieces and nephews, Frank Albreada, Donald Albreada, Barbara(Martello)Brusasca, Paula(Gaura) Underwood, John Gaura and Norbert Flammia.  Other close surviving family members include her sister-in-law, Elsie DelMedico, and nieces Cleo Albreada and Eleanor Albreada.  Linda is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.  She leaves a special neighbor, Wayne Gebrian (and family) who went out of his way to be kind and helpful by running errands, making repairs and bringing weekly treats.

Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed dancing with her husband, knitting, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and word searches, and most importantly playing cards.  For the past fifteen years, Linda eagerly anticipated her Tuesday afternoon Skip-bo and Phase 10 games with her good friend Gloria Cianciolo.  Linda also loved cooking and did so well into her 90’s.  Her homemade gnocchi were especially delicious!

The family sincerely thanks Waneita Mullings, her devoted caregiver for the last 20 months who treated Linda with dignity and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Linda’s life at a funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday September 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Torrington, CT, followed by burial at New Saint Francis Cemetery.  Calling hours will be on Saturday from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home at 82 Litchfield Street, Torrington, CT.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter Church, c/o The Pastoral Center, 160 Main St., Torrington, CT 06790 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105 or to Francis J. and Donald G. Albreada UNICO Scholarship Fund, c/o Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation, 32 City Hall Ave., P.O.
