Jane (Bancroft) Golec

Jane (Bancroft) Golec, 83, passed away Friday, June 10th at home with her family by her side.  She was an amazing woman, the kindest of souls, who greeted everyone warmly with her beautiful smile.  

She is already greatly missed by family: son, Matthew Edward Golec of Torrington, daughter, Jennifer Jane Golec of West Simsbury and her husband, Edward J. Golec of Harwinton.  She was predeceased by her son, Christopher George Golec and her parents, Ruth and George Bancroft.  She leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Betty-May and Ed Coburn of Seattle and a sister, Gert Sutcliffe of East Hartford, many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

She graduated from Bulkeley High School in Hartford and worked as a claims adjuster for Connecticut General in Bloomfield.  She also enjoyed her work as a home health aide for Brooker Memorial.

Jane was an active member of the Harwinton Congregational Church and a lifelong Baptist with Central Baptist Church in Hartford.   She was the 1997 Harwinton Outstanding Citizen honoree for her endless commitment to the community and its organizations: the Harwinton Congregational Church, Friends of the Harwinton Library, Women’s Club, Harwinton Historical Society, Garden Club, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Girl Scout assistant troop leader, Harwintonians Senior Center Choral Group and the Republican Town Committee.  

Jane was a big fan of animals, especially dogs.  She loved to knit hats, sing in the choir, bake blueberry pies, be active in town, explore new places and smile.

On Saturday, June 18th at 10:00 am, a memorial service will held at the Harwinton Congregational Church to celebrate the life of Jane.
