Welcome to the memorial page for

Irene Weingart Tartaglino

June 14, 1928 ~ October 26, 2015 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Irene Weingart Tartaglino, 87, died Monday, October 26, 2015, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital following a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Born on the family farm in New Hartford, CT on June 14, 1928, she was the youngest child of the late John and Anna (Affolter) Weingart.  She was the wife of the late Gilbert Tartaglino, Sr.

Irene was employed for many years as a housekeeper at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and, until June of 2014, dedicated one day a week as a volunteer at the hospital. That same year she was honored for over 3,600 hours of service as a CHH volunteer.

Irene was passionate about her family, gardening and serving the Lord.  A longtime member of Harvest Baptist Church, she sang in the choir until June of 2014. She volunteered many hours making meals for those recovering from illness and opened her home to missionaries on many occasions.  Her home, inside and out, was filled with beautiful plants and gorgeous flowers.

After losing her husband in 1973, Irene served graciously and lovingly as both mother and father to her six young children.  Her unselfish dedication, guidance and wisdom have left a rich legacy for her children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren.

Spending time with family brought her extreme joy.  If Mom wasn’t home, you might find her taking a fresh baked good to one of her siblings or friends.  Family gatherings at Mom’s/Gramma’s could be a bit loud, but were filled with laughter and Mom’s great cooking, naturally including dessert! Her home was always open for children or grandchildren to pop in for a meal or to spend the night.   Her house was a consistent source of warmth and comfort.

Irene’s six children, Tim, Donna, Gilbert, Gary, Greg and Albert, will miss her immensely.  However, together with her fifteen grandchildren,Tim, Jennifer, Gregory, David, Jenna, Christina, Ashley,Susanna, Alexandra, Nathan, Megan, Amy, Victoria, Gilbert 3d (Tre), and Katrina  and 4 great-grandchildren, her legacy will continue.

In addition to her children, their spouses and her grandchildren, Irene is survived by a brother, Gottfried and his wife, Lucille, of New Hartford, a sister-in-law, Shirley Daley, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.  She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Harvest Baptist Church, 1440 Litchfield Turnpike ( Route 202) New Hartford, Connecticut beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery.  Family and friends are kindly invited to pay their respects on Friday, October 30, from 5-8 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St, Torrington, Connecticut.
