Ilga (Broks) Baumanis

Ilga passed away May 21, 2016, at Brookdale Assisted Living where she has resided for the past 3 years.

Ilga was born September 20, 1928, to Karlis and Leontine (Pinka) Broks in Riga, Latvia. She and her mother Leontine fled from Latvia during WWII and emigrated to the US in 1950. Ilga moved to Torrington from Willimantic CT in1970 after marrying Helmuts Baumanis. A very conscientious and valued employee, she worked at the Torrington Company and then at Seitz Corporation in quality control. Ilga loved sewing, reading and was an avid photographer. She also loved her home which she remodeled with great zest with the help of her friend designer Diane Trivella. Ilga was very hospitable and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home with her excellent culinary skills. Ilga is survived by daughters Sandy LeBlanc (Gary) of Riverton CT and Mara Lewis (Jack) of Cary NC, her beloved grandsons Justin (Marina), Ryan and Jeremy and her much adored great-granddaughter Erina Amelia.

 She was predeceased by her husband Helmuts Baumanis and her grandson Kenny Lewis. Ilga also leaves behind her dear cousins in Boston and Latvia. Mara and Sandy would like to thank the many wonderful caretakers (you know who you are) that have worked with Ilga for the past 3½ years from Litchfield Woods Nursing Home to Emeritus/Brookdale Assisted Living and Foothills VNA. We especially want to mention her daily caretakers Shelian, Tulia and her much beloved Angel, also her dear friends Helene Vierps and Sandy Heintz.

Ilga is a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 837 Charles St., Torrington, where a service will be held Thursday May 26, 2016, at 11AM. There are no calling hours.
